Dungeon System Preview


I finally finished the dungeon system!

It has been about 4 months of on-off work, but now the system is finally in a stable state where I can show it off. Here’s a playthrough of the current test dungeon:

As you can see, there is not really much variation in content yet. There are only a total of 3 different rooms, with one being the entry room to the dungeon. This was enough for me to validate the systems though.

So, the next task would be to get some good gameplay in there. This means

  • different looking rooms
  • diverse encounters
  • some level design to freshen up the gameplay

This is what I currently have: First Dungeon room, narrow and long forest Second Dungeon room, wide forest with pool north west and sand bunker south east Third Dungeon room, wide forest with sand in middle & rocks in center

There isn’t a strong theme for these rooms, they are rather for me to get a feel for the game’s style. The dungeon I will be releasing with in the next update won’t be a coherent dungeon, but rather a random assortment of diverse looking rooms. Cleaning everything up will come in the updates after that.


With this big milestone, I believe I can release the next update before the end of the year. There won’t be much to do besides playing for fastest time though - the metagame will come in the following updates.
