Version 0.4 released!

The next version is here! This time, it only took me about half a month to get the next version out. Development has picked up steam again, and for such a small timeframe, this update changes quite a few things (full changelog here):

A new progression system

The world map of the game

As outlined in the previous devlog (here), there is now a world map, in which you can go through a number of levels. By finishing one, you unlock the next destination on the map.

Currently, there is only a handful of levels, but this will change in future versions.

Better onboarding

Hero picking up an ability item

To get the player up to speed on how to play the game and how to use each of the abilities, you now start with only the default attack unlocked. You will unlock the rest of your kit by completing special rooms littered throughout the dungeons.

Additionally, there is a “beginner dungeon” as the first level, which lets you fight weaker monsters in order to get accustomed to the game. More advanced players can skip right through the dungeon, as each room can be completed without damaging an enemy.

Outlook into the future

Hero looking into distance

The next version will be all about refining the core gameplay. Currently, the game lacks when it comes to the combat, which is arguably the most important aspect of this project.

I already have some rough ideas on how to fix this, but nothing concrete that I can share right now.
