What is planned for version 0.2.0

3 days ago I published a first version of Skylite Heroes on itch. The feedback has been mostly positive, with some constructive critisism sprinkled inbetween. Thank you to everyone who played it so far! Without you, I would still be clueless about whether this game actually makes fun. The general answer seems to be yes, but it needs improvement in most systems.

This first version however didn’t have any gameplay that I want to keep for the final game, as it was mostly a slapped together test of the combat systems. Therefore I won’t focus completely on refining everything, but instead just polishing the areas that will actually be present going forward, with the focus of next version being to get the central gameplay system of the project done - The dungeons.

I have actually done a good chunk of work while finishing the combat, so I won’t have to start from zero with this new system - still, it will take some time to get dungeons right.

But there are other areas that I want to improve on with the next version, most notably the environment art, the hit feedback on enemies as well as making the AI a bit less random (at least from a programming standpoint). A requested feature, sounds, will be added at a later point, as it requires a rewrite of the vfx system, which I don’t really feel like doing at this time. It is however planned in the major version after.

Here is an overview about my Trello board for the next version:

The todo list for next version

Thanks for reading! I hope you will remember this project when I release the next version, as I have absolutely no idea when it will come out. I am working a 40h job while this project only advances in my spare time, so progress each week does vary extremely. Still, strengthened by the positive feedback I hope to get it out somewhere within the next 4 months (but don’t quote me on this).

Until next time!
